:::::: Christie Elementary Celebrated International DOT DAY on September 15th ::::::

Before we began we listened to the story about the Dot.

We talked about how we could work together as a team and do our very best work.

We used a variety of Media....like florescent colors and Q-tips.

Fourth grade tried out "gelli" plates and printmaking.

 Everyone tried dot printing...

 We used Construction paper crayons.

We elaborated and added details on top.

We used oil pastels to create resists underneath.

We listened to some inspiring music while we worked.

We planned our creations...

and did lots of exploration!

We kept on enhancing and elaborating the design of our artwork.

We painted with tempera cakes to make our mark too!

We worked...

We planned...

Until we were through.

Then, Mrs.Tice and her helpers put them up all around the school!

We displayed them all together!

First Grade,

Second Grade,

 Third Grade,

Fourth grade and Fifth grade mixed into too!

We put them down by the learning commons.

Our bright and beautiful art is everywhere you look!

There is even First grade art by the lockers!

It's there when you walk in the doors of Christie!

If you thought I forgot it's in Kindergarten too!

Make sure to take a look!

Welcome Back!

Hey Christie Cubs...so glad you're back!

We have a new focus at Christie Elementary this year! We want everyone at Christie to know that "WE ARE FAMILY!"

We started our first day of art getting to know each other!  We created a circle of community in our art room this week, but every student at Christie will be a part of a circle each morning in their regular classroom on a daily basis.

Each student had an opportunity to share their name and tell something they were excited about this upcoming school year. Circles provide students and teachers opportunities to build relationships and trust.

Every person had an opportunity to hold the talking piece while everyone else listened!

Each teacher also has a safe space to go if a student is mad, sad or anxious. This is another way we are building community by giving students strategies get their emotions under control.

Our goal is to create a safe environment where everyone can learn and is welcome!

I shared my personal story about myself and my family with my students as well.

One very important thing you can learn from my story is that you have the power to choose! You can choose who you want to be and overcome difficult things!

Open House... Art on Display!

Christie students have created some wonderful Multicultural Art Works to share with you at open house and for our up coming culturefest!

Our first stop is Kindergarten, Where students became Illustrators and Authors as they dreamed about Spring Break!

In every Kindergarten room we displayed our Portfolios and our Collage Self Portraits!

We even wrote in Spanish down in our Bilingual hall!

First grade learned about Russia, the Tsars and the Fabulous Faberge' Eggs!

Second grade created woven Animal masks! Masks are worn all over the world. Aren't their expressions and details are wonderful!

Third grades Multicultural Metal Mandela's are a mixture of symbols and patterns from around the world.

Third graders also made paper molas inspired by the native works in Panama.

The Kuna people are renowned for these fabulous fabric creations.

As you entered our classrooms you were greeted by Ojos De Dios, Mexican inspired art works called "God's Eyes" in English.

We displayed our are works everywhere!

Fourth grade made some incredible Bug's Eye View works of art inspired by the Southwestern American Artist Georgia O'keeffe.

Fourth graders also created weavings, a centuries old tradition from around the world.

Fifth grade had a blast from the ancient past designing Hieroglyphic Prints with Metal Mummies and god's influenced by Ancient Egypt Works of Art.

They also decorated their rooms with Dot's from Dot day and our Surrealistic works of art.

Sadly every took their Surrealistic Art works home before I could get a picture!

Hope you enjoyed looking at our art as much as we enjoyed making it.
